In the ever-evolving world of fashion, one trend that continues to shine bright is the art of stacking jewellery. Whether you're going for a chic and effortless look or aiming to make a bold statement, stacking earrings, rings, chains, and bracelets can help you achieve a unique and personalised style. We'll explore the dos and don'ts of stacking your favourite bling to create a stunning mix that's all your own.
It’s never too late to get an earring stack!
There's something undeniably captivating about wearing jewellery in general. For the longest time, I stuck to a single piercing on each ear, convinced that anything more would be too daring for my taste. But then, a wave of inspiration crashed over me as I noticed celebrities effortlessly flaunting multiple ear piercings while maintaining an air of timeless class. Determined to rewrite my style narrative, I embarked on a daring journey at the age of 50 – I sauntered into a local tattoo parlour and emerged with not one, but two new piercings in each ear. And yes, you guessed it, the pain was surprisingly bearable, nothing compared to the empowerment I felt!
This venture into the world of multiple piercings has brought me immense joy and an unexpected surge in confidence. Beyond aesthetics, it has unveiled a treasure trove of earring stacking possibilities that are now the highlight of my morning routine. Gone are the days of monotony; my ears have transformed into a canvas of self-expression, and I’m so here for it.
For a great Earring stack begin with a foundational piece and consider what complements it. Begin with larger pieces at the bottom and gradually go smaller as you move up. Mixing metals is a great way to add interest, particularly if your earrings are a bit samey. Adding a pop of colour works a treat too, especially for a summery vibe! My current fave stack is a wiggly diamond hoop at the bottom with a Pearl Add-On, then rectangle diamond hoops, topped with small Sofia diamond studs at the top. If I’m feeling more adventurous, I’ll pop on one of our chain fusions too.
Rock your ring stack.
Your fingers are like a blank canvas just waiting to be dressed! With so many of us using our hands to gesticulate as we talk, they are too often overlooked when planning your outfit. When stacking rings, balance is key. Start with a focal point ring, perhaps one with a gemstone or unique design. Then, build around it with thinner bands or midi rings to create interest. With just two or three quality pieces, mixed with less expensive basic stackers you can create an interesting look without breaking the bank. Throw in some mixed metals for further interest and consider wearing one or two rings on the lower third of the finger to really up your style game. Top tips: Don’t overlook your thumbs and spice up your summer look with enamels and coloured gems!
Chain Reaction
Layering chains can add depth and dimension to your look. In the summer on bare skin and in the winter, over a thin tight sweater works a treat too. Gold and silver really pop off a black background!
Start with a focal point – something chunkier. Experiment with various chain types, from delicate cable chains to bold link chains, to achieve an eclectic and stylish result; the list of available chain styles is endless. Ideally, no two chains should be the same length. Throw in a pendant for extra interest. And voila! Top tip: if you find yourself with two chains of the same length, connect them to create a single extended chain. Fold it in half around your neck and pull on one end to create varying lengths – one shorter and the other longer.
Bracelet Bliss
Wrists are a prime canvas for stacking bracelets. Start by choosing a statement bracelet as your foundation. Then mix in some lighter pieces to add interest, such as satellite bracelets and simple curbs. In the summer months, think about adding in other textures such as leather or fabric. You can add as little or as much as you like to suit your chosen look for the day. Top Tip: Don't shy away from mixing metals and materials — contrast can make your stack truly pop!
Unleash Your Creativity
The beauty of stacking jewellery lies in the freedom it offers for self-expression. Embrace your unique style by mixing and matching pieces that resonate with you. Incorporate sentimental pieces that tell your story, like heirloom pieces or birthstone- jewellery. Remember, there are no hard and fast rules—only endless possibilities. Don’t forget that sometimes, less can be more. Theres a fine line between stylish layers and a cluttered mess. To avoid overwhelming your look, consider opting for fewer ‘statement’ pieces rather than piling on countless items. If you go to town on one stack such as hands, then go easy on the bracelets. Or if you go to town on ears, go easy on the chains. It’s all about balance!
